When I reached out to Irvine Spine and Sport, I was very happy with the chiropractor I was already working with. After a couple years, I hit a stressful patch of life that manifested in a lot of tension in my shoulders which started to leave me feeling not fully aligned after routine adjustments. The original chiropractor did not have deep tissue specialists on staff and the massage therapist he recommended was not responsive, so I reached out to Irvine Spine & Sport. Boy am I glad that I did!
I think of Dr. Twombly like quartermaster Q to my James Bond. He is perfectly happy to geek out with you about exactly how your infraspinatus muscle is limiting your mobility (complete with a giant interactive light up diagram board in his waiting area), describe how his manipulations help release tension, what sort of “homework” you can do with minimal time and equipment to strengthen supporting muscles to prevent relapse (with the theraband he sends you home with), etc. He even provides advice to support your future fitness adventures (like swim stroke techniques that recruit your larger muscle groups rather than relying on small muscles and limited leverage of your rotator cuffs).
Danny and John are also the best deep tissue therapists I’ve ever been able to find. Active Release Therapy is no joke painful, but it has done wonders to relieving the chronic shoulder tension in a lasting way and increasing my range of motion to the point where I can do overhead squats at crossfit without my form collapsing pitifully.
Pricing is a bit more expensive than what I had been paying for adjustment and a couple mins in an eStim machine, but I feel like the results and additional hands on work justify the expense.
